Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal Headline Day 6

The bottom half of the men's draw wraps up the third round and showcases up-and-comer Juan Martin Del Potro v. Novak Djokovic, and Rafa Nadal v. Jo-Wilfreid Tsonga.

Today they’ll finish the third round for men, and the yellow fuzz will fly at Forest Hills again. If you’d like to take in a superb tennis show, don’t miss Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin Del Potro. The young Argentine brings plenty of game and after today’s match you’ll remember his name. He’s destined for the top ten is what they all say, but against Novak the Djoker this will not be his day.

Tommy Robredo the No.8 seed could easily go five but there should be no need against Ernests Gulbis who’s only 19, with a game that isn’t as clean as some others we’ve seen. Whether Phillip Kohlschreiber can take Carlos Moya is a bit unsure, but the winner will have a fairly favorable draw. He’ll likely play Robredo in the round of 16, and though Tommy can play, of the crop he’s no cream.

Unseeded Agustin Calleri will give it a go against fellow Argentine No.23 seed Juan Monaco. The little known Calleri should have it made, because he’s beaten Monaco each time they’ve played. Calleri took out Lleyton Hewitt, which was a surprise, but with that big win he’s opened some eyes. US journeyman Robby Ginepri will face Poland’s best, and Stanislas Wawrinka should be up to the test. Wawrinka ousted Marat Safin in three, and he’s likely to do the same thing to Ginepri.

No.20 seed Juan Ignacio Chela is a heck of a playa, but he won’t scratch his itch against No.12 Ivan Ljubicic. Ljubicic has beaten Chela six times in a row, and surely that’s a streak Ivan won’t want to blow. The battle of the Davids should be a doozy, a downright war, just without the Uzis. Ferrer has taken two of the last three, but I’m picking Nalbandian to get the victory.

Rafa Nadal and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, I will say, should be among the best matches today. Tsonga sent Tim Henman home for the very last time with a forehand that’s huge and a serve that’s sublime. If Rafa’s knees are ready to go he’ll pull this out, but if he’s unsteady on his feet, there could be some doubt. However, if there’s a match that you don’t want to miss, just remember that I told you this: Check out Del Potro and Djokovic it comes on at 7, and should be as close as you can get to men’s tennis heaven.

So until tomorrow and the next batch, it's time to sign out: game, set and match….
