Tips on Today's Bets at the WTA Zurich Open and ATP Madrid Masters

There are tight matches in Madrid and Zurich this afternoon with a lot of players coming into form. But, a couple of standout bets exist in the markets on offer today.

Yesterday turned out to be a mixed one in terms of results. Marion Bartoli confirmed superiority over Michaella Krajicek and James Blake seems to be in some sort of mini crisis as he has not looked convincing since that loss to Haas at the US Open. Caution must be taken when backing Jankovic now as well, the amount of matches played this year might just be taking a toll on the Serb as she lost in the early stages of yet another competition, second time in a space of a week.

Today's Value Tennis Bets

The lineup of matches today look very competitive. Mathieu, who reached the final at Moscow last week, can dig deep again after beating Gasquet for the first time in his career, to see off Mario Ancic in one of the early afternoon starts. Later on today, another player that featured in a final last week can carry on the run of good form. Ivo Karlovic from Croatia is not just a tall, serving giant, he has depth to his game that comes with a good understanding of the game of tennis.

ATP Tour: Madrid Masters

Ivo Karlovic (Croatia) vs N. Kiefer (Germany): After winning the final at Stockholm last weekend, Karlovic is back on court in search of another. It is a tall task to think he can win this Masters event with the big guns present but he could definitely have a say in the shape of things. Karlovic relies on his huge serve to see his game through. On his way to the title at the Swedish Open, he met the top German player, Tommy Haas and he made light work of Haas in two sets. Kiefer, another German, is coming back slowly after a lengthy time off due to injury. He is gaining court time and winning matches but his form is not solid enough to dispose of players that are in a groove. Karlovic has definitely found a purple patch and at very good odds, he is a firm choice to win though the tennis betting market suggests cant split then. Kiefer leads the series 2-1, the last match was in 2005 and since then Karlovic has evolved into a confident player on tour. Ivo Karlovic to beat Nicolas Kiefer.

WTA Tour: Zurich Open

On the WTA front, just one match of interest that starts late in the afternoon.

F. Schiavone (Italy) vs P. Schnyder (Switzerland) : A win over Dementieva in the first round would have given Francesca Schiavone some confidence going into this encounter. Although the win over the Russian was as a result of a retirement, momentum was on the side of Schiavone who took the second set emphatically, 6-1. The Italian has been playing well in recent week without much luck but might just have found her stride and can do some damage against the Swiss Miss.

Patty Schnyder has been somewhat disappointing in the last two tournaments. Since some bad line calls against Hantuchova in Luxembourg and match points she failed to convert, Schnyder lost in the Round of 32 and 16 respectively in Stuttgart and Moscow, although to higher ranked players. There is always an element of the unknown about Scnyder's game and she might very well just be making up numbers at compeititons this time of the year since her chances of going to Madrid for the season ending championships is all but gone.

Schiavone leads 4-3, both have each won against the other this year on hard court and the Italian won the last bout. Schiavone to win +3 games handicap.

Finally, a good handicap bet to consider is Sybille Bammer to win +4.5 games versus Svetlana Kuznetsova.
