The Rally Up event at Rutenberg Park in Fort Myers on August 25 kicks off the fall registration for the Lee County Community Tennis Associations fall programs.

The Lee County Community Tennis Association (LCCTA) is gearing up for fall programs, and representatives were out in force at eight Lee County locations this week recruiting players and volunteers for Ralleyball and Junior Team Tennis. Area Tennis Director Andrea Nelson and USPTA/USPTR and Lee County Instructor Charles Nelson did their duty at Schandler Park in Fort Myers on Wednesday, August 8.

Rally Up Fun at Rutenberg

The primary item on the menu was the “Rally Up” event scheduled for August 25, 2007 at Rutenberg Park in Fort Myers, from 9am – 12:00pm. According to LCCTA Ralleyball League Coordinator, Katie Barham, the event will be in the mold of “the 5th Grade Carnival, with lots of "Meet and Greets" from Instructors and Fun Times!”

Turn out should be excellent for this event, because in addition to personally recruiting at the eight sites, flyers will be included in welcome back packages kids will receive at school. The timing should be perfect for “Rally Up.”

Ralleyball Great Fun for Beginners

Ralleyball starts September 22 for players ages 5-12. This fun, USTA tennis format allows beginners to learn the game of tennis with their peers and have a great time. Classes will meet once a week for seven weeks with an instructor who will teach tennis skills, and EVERYONE PLAYS!

Gina Vargas, mother of Miguel (13) and Joshua (8), who were introduced to tennis via Ralleyball, assured Andrea that they would attend Ralley Up. Speaking of her boys, she said enthusiastically, “They love it!” Now they’re looking for a tennis ball magnet for the back of my truck, because we’ve got a soccer ball on there now. ‘We’ve got to get a tennis ball too mom.’ And any time we stop anywhere they have to find tennis balls…they’ll go to the flea market and what they hunt for are the buckets of tennis balls.”

USTA Junior Team Tennis Registration

In addition to registering children for Ralleyball, at the Rally Up event on August 25, parents can sign kids up for the USTA Junior Team Tennis League for kids ages 9-15, which begins October 6. Teams are being formed at Judd Park in North. Fort Myers; Rutenberg Park in South Fort Myers; Veterans Park in Lehigh Acres; Three Oaks Park in Estero, and at private tennis clubs throughout Lee County.

Adult Programs Ready to Go

The LCCTA isn’t skimping on offerings for Lee County adult players either. Clinics and lessons will be offered at 15 locations across the county, and USTA leagues (men’s, women’s and mixed doubles) are gearing up for the start of play on October 1. There is far too much going on with Lee County Tennis to detail it all here, but the LCCTA’s website lays it all out for Lee County tennis lovers. If tennis is your love and Lee County is your home, it’s safe to say that you have found yourself a slice of tennis heaven on a platter offered up by the Lee County Community Tennis Association.
